KITT4SME has enabled the opportunity to extend Libelium IoT hardware with edge computing capabilities via the Kitt4SME platform powered by FIWARE. The key benefits that edge computing are enabling via FogFlow, NGSI-LD and FIWARE as part of the kitt4SME ecosystem are:
❇ Extensibility of cloud computing to the edge with the same APIs (NGSI-LD).
❇ Data exposition minimization with the interconnection of the FIWARE Context Broker with the IoT Broker at the edge node; local data is directly accessible at the edge level, and global data is consumable on demand.
❇ Real-time operations with GDPR compliance offering activities for workers that otherwise could not be supported, such as real-time gas leak detection, crowd monitoring/people monitoring identification for safety reasons and data quality enhancement services.
❇ Workers (edge AI code) totally compatible with the most extended languages such as Python, Node.JS and Java.

The EU-funded KITT4SME project is developing scope-tailored and industry-ready hardware, software and organisational kits for European SMEs and mid-caps. The aim is to deliver these as a modularly customisable digital platform that can seamlessly introduce artificial intelligence in their production systems. The project will ensure that the kits are widely distributed to a wide audience of SMEs and mid-caps in Europe. Moreover, the seamless adoption of the kits will be facilitated with the use of factory systems like ERP, IoT sensors and wearable devices, robots and other factory data sources.

This project has received cascading funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 952119
